Don't know how you see the oil,the bellhousing on the 580CK has to be oil tight,there is a gasket between the torque tube and the engine,the starter is the sealed type and it has a gasket where it bolts to the engine,there is meant to be oil in the b/housing,you are right in saying the oil passes in through the centre.
