I have also been on another discussion board: YT. Jim McVay wrote me about the manual clutch. In summary: He suggests taking the cover off the forward (3-speed) gearbox to access the hand clutch lever and the clutch.

Reading his response to me may help solve your problem. I am going to check what he suggests.
