Thanks Mark for the input. Update: Today my mechanic checked the tractor and listened to the growl. He is not sure of the cause. I removed the inspection plate by the primary clutch. (keep in mind I have a brand new clutch installed) The clutch looks good; the shifting fork moves properly with actuation of the clutch pedal, the free-play adjustment looks correct. The manual clutch lever, however, is sloppy on its shaft and won't stay in the forward or reverse detents.
We are going to remove the top cover on the 3-speed range gear box (forward of the main transmission gear box) to see if we can get to the manual clutch rod to check for bad bushings, break or disconnect. I am also wondering if my growl is caused by a bad transmission bearing.
