Buck, My 430 also had a loud growling noise before the primary clutch went out about 2 months ago. I had this clutch repaired/replaced by local dealer and it worked fine for several hours of use until the problem with the hand clutch suddenly happened. I don't know if the primary clutch problem is in any way connected with the hand clutch but am trying to find out. A reply about the hand clutch problem suggested the failure of a half moon key connecting the lever to the "fork" caused the problem. I think this may be true but still don't know how to repair, if the tractor must be split to fix and re-connect, then I will need to have a dealer or other mechanic do the work. I would suggest getting your primary clutch checked out before it possibly goes out on you. Good luck and let me know what happens. thanks, Mark Mason
