Could the filter have got a knock and have a hairline crack,could the leak be from one of the fittings above and running down on the canister,the plastic backup ring would go on first then the o'ring,smear some oil on them,screw on the canister and nip it up,watch it on start up with a strong light to pinpoint the leak.
