Check for spark at the plugs. take an old plag and open the gap to about 3/16". hook up to plug wireand clamp to block somehow and with the plugs all out crank it over with the key on. You should have a strong blue spark. You may just need a new set of points and condensor. Believe they should be set to 0.025" as on side mount 8N.
In a positive gr ound sys I believe the pos side of coil should go to the dist. It should give a spark both ways tho. the correct way may be a bit stronger spark tho.
