You say the radiator is new? Did you overfill it? Should be only be filled just to the top of the fins. This is to have room for expansion. The sputtering could be from water getting into the coil or distributor. WD40 is great to use to dispell water. Unless the water pump shaft is loose I wouldn't just jump to that conclusion.
