I bought a 52 8n with oil in the radiator. It was pretty much the same as you describe. No water in oil. It wasn't running when I bought it, so I can't say if it ran hot or anything. I overhauled it and put a new head gasket and it runs fine and no oil in the radiator. I took the radiator to a repair shop and the guy told me it caught on fire when he tried to weld on it. I guess it had lots of oil in it. I think it has something to do with the head gasket and the bolt holes, but I have no proof. When I removed the head, I looked real close for evidence of a leak, but could not see anything.
I think as long as there is no water in the oil, it should be ok.
