The PTO shaft has a sesal on it. Remove 4 bolts and pull shaft out. If it twisted you may have problems getting it out of the pump. You might want to remove the side inspetion plates and take a look when you engage the PTO. would not have anything to do with filling the oil up on not going in and out of gear. Some people park the amchine downhill to keep from leaking too much oil when they pull the shaft out.
Changing the seal is easy if the shaft comes right out.
