LOts of places to start, but first I ned to know what 8n you have. Front mount dist or side mount. 6 volt or 12. the ignition systems are different and have different compoents in them.
IF you have a meter, check for voltage starting at the switch and work your way to the points. or check at the switch side of points for voltage first. check with points open.
the front mount coils are a known weak point but don't go buy one until you check everything else out.
sometimes new points need to be cleaned before they will make contact. make sure they close and are making contact. check with meeter.
the ignition switchs have been known to fail also, check for voltage with it turned on and off to make sure it is working or make a jumper and jump around it to see if it makes any difference.
You may or may not have a resistor in the circuit depending on with system you have.
if you do not have an I&T FO-4 service manual, I would suggest you get one. It sure helps.
good luck, let us know what you find.
