I don't know if mine is normal or what, but I do not get any oil pressure at the gauge until the engine fires up. Don't know how or how fast you are turning it over tho. You can prime the oil pump by removing the spring and plug of the oil pressure relief valve on the front of engine and pouring oil in with a hose or what ever works. you should have oil flow to the filter housing, but again may depend on how fast you are cranking it over and wheter or not the pump is primed.
