Well the mystery is finally solved. It was the timing!
Never had to re-time an engine before when simply changing the points as you only remove them from the plate and make sure the gap is set right.
You folks have certainly helped greatly and very timely I must say. This is a great forum with great people at the helm.
I was really beginning to worry as I use this tractor at least once a week between April and November for Cutting grass with a 72" finishing mower together with my wife on a 48" Ford LGT14D.
I use it for grading the lane, cultivating and landscaping, sure would hate to have it inoperative for any length of time.
Attached is the manual instructions for timing although I cannot find the described timing marks on the flywheel as shown. Maybe my father had it changed when he did a rebuild in the early 70's.
When I acquired this tractor in 1989 I only had it painted, new tires and cosmetic repairs. This has only been the second time that I have done a tune up since I have owned it.
