Thank you Dave and Bob G for your responses.
First, I have not checked the timing chain nor the timing itself as I left the distributor in place when changing the points and condenser.
The engine runs smooth enough but will not accelerate or produce any power as my initial post indicates. Consequently I will try first to reset the timing as I confirmed that the firing order of 1,2,4,3 is correct and I set the points to .025 as per the manual.
Sure hope that it is not the timing chain and don't think that it is as my reason for doing a tune up didn't happen as the result of any immediate loss of performance.
The current symptom seems to be more like starvation for fuel and I did remove and clean the Carburetor at the same time.
I will try re-timing the engine tomorrow and if that doesn't do the trick I will let you know.
Thank you for your help and suggestions.
For now;
Ross
