My 8n was doing the same thing last week. I pulled the line going to the carb and fuel only trickled out. It should run steady. I removed sediment bowl from tank and the intake tube was plugged. the screen above the bowl was missing and the threads where the fuel line connects were bad so ordered a new assy. Got to get it installed today.
If fuel is getting to the carb ok, there is also a filter in the fitting where the fuel goes into the carb. just remove elbow and there is a screen on the end of it, or should be i should say. If all filters are ok might be a sticking float needle not allowing enougdh fuel into the carb.
