If it is a late 8n with voltage regulator, you could burn out the voltage regulator. If you must jump with 12 volts hook negative cable diretly to starter stud. It will crank as soon as you make the connection, so make sure it is not in gear. this by passes the safety interlock so is not as safe. key would be on. My 8n is six volts and starts just fine. you might want to check all of the battery connections. the real weak one is where the braided cable bolts to the battery box sheet metal. Most people go with a longer ground starp and to a bolt on steering box.
Don't expect it to crank over like it does with 12 volts. If it starts that is the main thing.
