Have you checked the thermostat? I think on the 49 it is in the upper radiator hose. When I was young on the family farm the of ford we plowed with used to do that on a hot day from over work. The gas would boil and it would vapor lock. Had to let it cool down before you could plow more. If it is doing this under normal operation something is wrong with the cooling system. Check the thermostat first.
