ford 8n wont start and solenoid gets hot

my ford 8n wont start it ran last dec when i was taking out wood and now it wont start i had the carb off looked in there and there is nothing wrong. there is gas in the bowl and comes out when i crank it with the breather off the carb. but my real question is the solenoi dnut gets hot on the starter when you crank it its the side that the starter is grounded to the opposite side of the wiring . Is this ok because of the current draw.
