What you have planned will not hurt anything. I would suggest putting about 2 tablespoons of ATF into each spark hole and let it set for a day or two. While your waiting I would check the point gap. Points are pretty cheap. Find you some Blue Streak brand. If it's front mount dist. gap them at .15 to .17. If it is side mount gap them at .25. If it is front mount maake double sure of the distributor plug wires are in the right order. # 1 is marked # 1 and then go ccw 1,2,4,3.
If it is front mount timing is not critical. Starting at the radiator the plug order is i,2,3,4. I would change the oil and filter and give it a go. The key switch on those tractors are not very good, especially one that has been setting that long. You can just jump across it. It turns on voltage to the coil so it has to work. Those tractors flood pretty easily so I wouldn't give it too much choke except right at first. Some people pull start them at first. None of the above will hurt anything. I would get me a Ford Shop Manual # FO-4. They are about $25 and will save you much more than that in the long run. Good luck to you. Billy Goat
