I had the exact same problem with my 8n and didn't really know it. I think it had been leaking for sometime even before I bought it. I'm not sure it did any damage but it sure can't do any good. I ended up getting a new one and putting it on. Not a big job. I soaked everything down in PB BLASTER and then took them out. The only problem I had was two of the studs came out. Since they were course thread on one side and fine on the other I ended up using bolts in the two that came out. That worked fine as long as you get the right length. Go ahead and give it a shot. If I can do it you can. Just take your time and let the PB BLASTER soak good. A impact wrench might get them out easier but I'd put them back in with a wrench.
