It does have a one gallon reserve when you open the fuel valve all the way. Normally you don't open it all the way,unless you need to get back from the back forty. That's what the extra one gallon is for. With a bad coil they will usually run about 30 minutes before they die. Your's sounds more like a bad ignition switch. Thay go bad just like that. They are easy to check because you can just short across them with a jumper or screw driver. Billy
