i may be a little late to jump in but i'll ad my 2 cents anyway.
i believe the correct ford oil will help you greatly. the ford/new holland # is 134D. when you see it pour, it looks like it's too thin but fear not, it's made specificly for this and you won't have the heavy thick oil problem. other mfgs make it but i don't know their #s. do not use 80w, 90w, etc gear oil because this is not only for your rear axle but also for your hydraulic system. today's regular gear oil is not only too thick but will not stand up to constant hydraulic pressure (1500-2500 lbs) and will eventually foam.
