as stated the noticable differnces are the transmission and also the rear axles. 9n has a solid flange axle, 8n has shaft and hub style. other than trans, the easy way to tell is the 8n has both brake pedals on one side while the 9n has a brake pedal on each side. ther are other differences so you'll need to know what you have when it's time for parts.
FYI: notice the first digit of the model #s
9N started in 1939
2N started in 1942
8N started in 1948
