I had the exact same problem with my 1948. I put new coil, distributer, spark plug wires and plugs in. Didn't really help much. I went to an old guy who runs the old neighborhood auto parts store asking him for advice. I knew he had worked on 8n's for years. He got me a new resistor and said to take the toolbox off and it is right behind there. He was right the old one was rusty. He said to put it on and clean up the electric connections there also. I think there were 3 or 4. He said to make sure that the battery cables were big 6 volt one and not the skinny 12 volt. He was right there also. I put new thick ones on since mine had the skinny. I also ran a new wire to the coil from the terminal box by that resistor. It has started right away ever since and that has been several years ago. I clean those posts up behind the tool box every now and then. I had thought by problem was in the carb since it was flooding. It was all electrical and the tractor runs much better also plus it starts right up.
