The major difference is that the transmission on the 8N has four forward gears. The 9N has but three. The 9N was made in 1039 thru 1947. The 8N from 1948 thru 1952. The 8N has position control in it's hydraulics. Other than that not too much difference. The maintenance and reliability are about the same except one series is a little newer than the other. Tho Horse power is very close to the same. You can find a lot of information on the internet about all tractors. Still later models had what is known as live hydraulics, power steering, etc. A lot depends on what you want or need it for and how much you are willing to pay. Prices vary a good bit in different parts of the states. Billy
