I had the same problem with my 1940 9N. The tractor shut down after a two minute run. The coil, cap, rotor, wires and plugs were installed about five months ago. I drained the fuel tank and filled it with fresh gas. The problem persisted. After a quick check of the primary wiring I found a suspect ballast resistor. (It looked "burnt". Too many boosts using twelve volts I suspect). I installed a new resistor and it fixed the problem. "Standard" part number "FD220". Cost was a little over two dollars ... :)
