Ford jubilee is having some 3 point problems

I have a 1950's ford jubilee. It does not get used very much and recently the three point hitch has been giving me some problems. The handle to lift the 3 point only has an inch of throw and when you lift it up, you have to hold the handle up to keep the hitch up. The hitch raises slowly and when you let pressure off the handle, the hitch drops quikly, it seems like something is binding internally. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what might be wrong.
