8N fan belt

I had a Ford fan belt on the 8N but it allowed the generator to adjust out fully. The belt was rubbing into the lower hose. I purchased a 41" belt which is shorter and should allow the belt to ride higher off of the hose. Does anyone know if that length will work? I had a hard time getting the old belt off, very close to radiator.
