Recentlly bought tractor, has alternator on it. Used a 12 volt Battery to cank. Wired up ignition switch, ran hot wire to coil without resistor. Tractor fired up, and ran it for about 30 minutes. Tried to restart, and no spark. Coil temp. was hot.

When converting to a 12 volt system, if you use a 12 volt coil, do you have to use a resistor.
