bad coil 8n

I have a challenge. The coil went bad ( typical, tractor runs fine till it heats up, then weak as heck ). But when I bught a new coil online, no spark at all !
Bought a second brand new coil in town, same deal!

I keep trying different adjustments on the metal tab that contacts the top point on the distributor, but no spark.
The old coil still fires it, just weakens after 20 or 30 minutes.

Any ideas?
it's a 6 volt system, positive ground
