In Reply to: Removal of broken lift arm shaft (right side). posted by Bill Roberts on Thursday, August 16, 2007:

Got it off. Manual said to 'bump' the 'lift shaft' after removing the cap screws. Not much 'bumping' room between the fender and the lift arm shaft either. Since the manual was probably written about the time I came along (67y.o.) I translated that to mean 'hammer'.

Earlier posts referenced hammering and penetrating oil. I used a spray can and saturated the end of the shaft. Then I hammered.

Whole removal process took some time, and sweat, but it finally came off. Suspect it might have been easier if I had removed the cap screws on the left hand lift arm shaft. That would have freed the lift shaft to move towards that side.

Used fairly forceful, repeated taps, to the base of the lift arm shaft itself (up near where it slides on to the shaft) to get it loose. It took some time but suspect the thing had been on there for close to 60 years (or more). It's been twenty years, or better, since I rescued the old thing from a caved in barn and had it rebuilt -so guess they could have been removed then, etc.

Anyway, if any of your more knowledgeable folks have any suggestions on how I could have done it easier, I still would be obliged for the info. Tks. B.R.
