Hi Alan, welcome to our little forum. I had mine on the bench last summer to put a new piston and rings in. I don't remember taking the shaft out though. I would try tapping it in with a piece of wood. As far as it's orientation, I would have the lift lever bolted to the lift plate. You should be able to determine where the offset will end up. I would have the tractor off while you put it in. Good luck and let us know how you did.
