mike, you have classic volt drop syndrome.remove the negative lead from the battery completely and clean both ends especially the end that bolts to the frame and remove any paint in the immediate area. to check for this symptom use a test lamp connected to the negative battery terminal itself and (not the clamp on it)a good clean earth on the motor, if you have volt drop the lamp will light when you attempt to start.
