In Reply to: Long Agribusiness LandTrac 300. Too good to be true? posted by Rick on Tuesday, December 09, 2003:
Buyer be-ware, as they say. And, it is very fitting with a Long AgriBusiness compact tractor. The higher end FarmTrac series seem to be very reliable, can’t say as much for the LandTrac line. I too did a lot or research and was impressed with what I read pre-purchase. My neighbors with New Holland, Kubota and John Deere’s don’t seem to have the same problems I’ve experienced. Reliability and cost coincide with tractors.
I bought a LandTrac 360 in late 2001, based on the same information you have found. Price was better but without some nice features found on big name products. I thought the 360 to be well built (Ford design and transmission) and the 4 vs. 3 cylinders found in all other products was the decision maker. It is a work horse when running properly. The 360 has never failed to start, and it handles jobs larger than a 36 horse should, but there ends the positives. Clutches on a 12 MPH vehicle should be more reliable than one per every 2 years of service and the body didn’t hold up well.
I am getting ready to have the third clutch installed with just over 500 hours. The plastic fenders are all breaking, the front end loader is a beast to remove and install. Last I put it back on, it would not seat level. Tell me how you bend 1/4 inch steel? The dealer is a nice guy, knows his business and has been at it a long time (no pun intended). However with all small dealers, it takes forever to get anything serviced.
My next tractor will be HST, and definitely be from a big name dealer, JD, NH or Kubota.
