My father and I are rebuilding our first allis and I was wondering a couple of things. First, every engine I have ever built have either faced the "tangs" toward the cam or away from it. 1&3 go away from the cam and 2&4 face the cam. I have a service manuel and it dosen't say anything about it. All of my experience tell me that isn't right. Has anyone seen that. Secondly, I've never seen the shims on the rod and main bearings. How important are they. The rods are a .030 undersize already. The book says that the bearings are bigger than the caps anyway. Anyone?
