i should clarify my last follow up. i had removed the oil pump, what i meant was the oil pump was the reason for the motor sticking. i bought the tractor with the motor stuck. turns out it was getting water in the oil. the guy ran it out of gas and left it parked for a week outside in below 0 weather. when he started it, he heard a loud grinding/clunking noise so he drove it behind his garage and parked it. i brought it home and tore it apart. i found the back rod bearing was stuck as well as the wrist pin on the same cylinder. when i spotted the gear on the cam i understood why. i'm thinking the oil pump had water in it and froze. when the guy fired it up, it wrecked the gear on the cam while starving that back cylinder for oil at the same time. what i don't get is why that shearpin in the oil pump shaft didn't break. not only was the gear on the cam stripped completely, but the shaft on the oil pump is bent. anybody heard of this happening before?
