I know most of us have to watch our $$$.$$ or someone else will be.
However: I could not put a $$$$.$$ figure on what the Operators Manual and the Parts Catalog has saved me. The parts catalog shows the part you need and what is before it and after it and how they go together, sometimes it may be wise to put them in while you're at it.
In my humble opinion, they would be worth it even if they were triple the most you want to spend.
You will find in the manual that you fill the trans only to the top of xxx with the dipstick in only to the Threads Not Screwed In, the Motor Oil dipstick is Screwed all the way in. good luck with your 2000, my 240D is GREAT.
