I've been told that the "unreconditioned" japanese and chinese tractors are some pretty tough little machines. If you're out to get a small oriental tractor, look for one with a high hour meter, rough paint, and a source for parts before you put in your bid.
I've known several guys that have owned the reconditioned machines and they are in the same boat you are in. The reconditioning process seems to be a slap-together slipshod nightmare I'm glad I stayed away from.
If you are still under warranty I'd make em buy it back minus depreciation. But thats just free advice. You get what you pay for.
