It's a mechanical thing. If you are saying it won't go into gear at all, it could be a problem with the shift lever or yoke. If you are saying that with the engine running and you push in the clutch, it grinds going into gear, then the pressure plate, disc and flywheel have rusted together, and you will have to start it in gear, latch the clutch down and pull something heavy, slamming on the brakes ocasionally to break it loose.
