I am not sure they are refurbished in China, most are done in Vietnam. The difference? Usually the ones "refurbed" in the USA are imported from Japan and have low hours (600-1500) and really only need cosmetics and tuneup. It is said the tractors that are not running and have engine damage are bought and shipped to vietnam where they repair/paint and install a new hour meter. It is said these machines have a high failure rate because of the shady "recondition" they get. I have never owned one but from my readings I decided to steer clear of the vietnam rebuilds and try to locate an original unmolested yanmar. A google search of "vn recon" will tell you what you want to know.
