yanmar 1700 turns over but does not crank

The other day I was running my tiller on the tractor. After about 10 minutes the tractor seemed to be getting weaker and finally just stopped. I tried to crank it but it would turn over but not fire up. After about thirty minutes I tried to start it again and it fired up but seemed weak. I was able to get it back to the barn and it turned off again.
I checked the fuel filter and cleaned it off. Then I decided to go ahead and change the oil and oil filter. It fired up for about 20 seconds and slowly died again. Now it will not fire up at all. It turns over but does not seem to want to fire up. Also I made sure that I bleed the fuel line and double checked that the fuel line was in the open postion.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on. From time to time my tractor will just decide she does not want to run for a few days and then she will start back up like she is stronger than ever and work just fine.

Thanks for any help.

Rob
