When using a brush hog type mower, it is important to have the Position Control all the way forward. The hydraulic arms will be all the way down. From this position adjust the 3-point to mower connection to the height desired.
What I do is put a 2" board under the mower deck. This give me about 3" cutting height. I then adjust the 3-point so it connects easily. I use two adjustable side links. Make sure the arms are all the way down. I also use a chain (with slack) for the top-link. The rear of the mower deck should also be slightly higher than the front.
When you start the tractor, the mower deck should hang about 2" above the ground in the front. The mower deck will now 'float' when you cut.
