I think the dipstick you are referring to is the dipstick for the trans/hydraulic fluid. If that is low or non existant the 3 point lift would not work or be weak. I am not 100% sure about the FX series as I have a YM series, they may be the same. Have you taken the dipstick out and looked inside? if you see gears in the trans/hydraulic. Replace with JD303 or similiar and make sure its for BOTH tranny and hydraulic. My YM2001 hold 4.5 gallons.
