I keep a box of terminals on hand, and replace them when I install a new battery. As for the cable, attach leads at both ends and if there's no resistance you know there's no fault, then run your fingers along the insulation feeling for cracks and breaks. Then wash your hands. If you replace it, I use insulated welding cable.
