Between the engine's two main parts, the block and the head, is a seal called the head gasket. It holds in the extreme pressure of a diesel engine, and it's not unusual for it to fail once in the tractor's lifetime. Signs that you can look for are the smell of oil in the coolant and/or the appearance of coolant in the engine oil. A good diesel shop might have a Snap-On device that sniffs a sample of coolant (that you could easily bring to them) for the presence of engine oil.

If the gasket's failed, it's no big deal for a tractor mechanic to remove the head (and inspect and fix as needed), remove the old gasket, lay the new one, and re-assemble. He won't have it in stock but there's no problem in getting the part.

You could have him adjust the valves at the same time, for which you'll have to lend him a Service Manual, which is available in English for the 165.
