Our written agreement with YA did not prohibit us from selling parts for greys. YA apparently thought it did, but it did not. Perhaps a slip-up on the part of the man who signed us up way back when, I really don't know...so we were not violating our agreement. Our written agreement DID however allow YA to terminate for any reason with 90 days written notice to us, and that is what happened. We were advised to cease all dealings with greys or forfeit our parts distributorship. We chose the latter, and replied telling them so. No malice, no harsh letters, just business. But that is why I have no respect for people who play a game with that situation.
The aftermarket parts availability probably equalled OEM by 2002 or so, and has since grown to be dramatically greater. That imbalance will increase IMO. We have accounts with JD dealers who can no longer get parts for the early JD compacts (650-1050) from the OEM, but some of our aftermarket parts for Yanmar will fit. Right now grey Yanmars have better parts availability (although it is aftermarket) than probably any 20+ year old compact you can buy. Period.
