I'm still puzzled on what the "gel problem" is. Summer diesel can gel at very low temps, but that doesn't seem the case here. Diesel can deteriorate slightly (and invite condensation) after sitting for a very long time, but that won't clog the filter.

Loss of power becoming refusal to start? Did you check the air filter or even try to start with the filter off (carefully, and only for a moment)? If you could have a bad tank of fuel, you could drain, refill (to the top), bleed.

That's a fine, export-model tractor, and you might look for a Service Manual for it. But W's dad did fight the Japs, so you never know.
