with a volt meter across the batt. just after the engine starts the voltave from the alt should be close to 14 volts and then after it has run a while it should go back to around 12.7 volts, I don't know how to test the reg. take your alt to a alt shop and have it tested, if it's good you may suspect the reg. good luck
