The absolute best scenario I’m aware of is to completely disassemble everything from the sheet metal you need painted. Approach an independent body shop that will work with you on a ‘fill in’ basis. They will charge you time and materials only but it still might run $500-$600 depending on the grade of paint and materials you select. If you’re fussy (and most of us are) and want dings, dents and imperfections removed that will have to be negotiated into the final price.
The high line finishes like acrylic enamel, BC/CC , polyurethanes and acrylic urethanes are quite expensive but the durability of those products will add years to the finished project. Or….
You can save all the money, put it towards the basic equipment like a compressor, filters, hoses and an inexpensive gun and do everything yourself. It’s fairly simple to pull the trigger on a paint gun - but preparation is everything.
