I assume you also found your hyd fluid 3 qts low. That would be one huge and unusual transfer.

Not that this would explain it, but are you using the right kind of fluid (combined hydraulic/transmission)? I ask because the three brands of hyd fluid I've used were straw colored, though I suppose other brands could be red.

When you put in hyd fluid, do you leave headspace? If you filled to the top and screwed the cap tight, when it heat-expands it might burst through something.
