I am not sure about the diesel engine wiring, but I did find documentation that showed that my 1954 oliver crawler did indeed have a positive ground system with a 6 volt battery. I don't know what year of tractor yours is, but if it is in the same number of years as mine it may have a positive ground system in it. I probably am not much help but thought I would throw it out there anyway.
